To ensure good health facility it is required that a person should have good insurance coverage and steady source of income, as both of source is not present in the case of unemployed individuals. Generally in United States of America most of the insurance plan is employers sponsored so people who are unemployed seems to be in a disadvantageous position in this situation. If a person has insurance plan and he losses his job then he also looses the employer’s contribution in paying annual premium because now he has to pay the premium individually. If a person purchased individual purchase plan then premium is generally high and if a person remains without insurance plan then he has to pay up-front for medications, doctors visits, and any unavoidable medical attention.

COBRA provision for unemployed

COBRA stands for Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1986, it enables the person to temporally extend the group insurance plan of his previous employers maximum up to 18 months. But this option proves to very costlier because all premium has to pay by the individuals

Eligibility for COBRA

•The date of Individual resignation was less than 60 days ago at the time of applying for COBRA.

•Individuals are eligible if he quit the job voluntarily, or he was laid off for other several reasons

•Individuals are eligible for employer-sponsored coverage the day before your last date of employment

• Employment termination was not done due to gross misconduct
